Our house

I just wanted to show the paint colors we used in the living and dining room/kitchen. Sorry for the mess, but it doesn't get much cleaner than this.

He's at it again!

This morning was a little hectic as we got ready to go to Lili's baby blessing. As we were getting ready to leave, I went to find Lincoln's sippy cup (soft spout aka "bottle") to get him some milk. I couldn't find it anywhere. I looked in every room, every drawer, under anything. I searched my memory for any rooms I had seen him use it in earlier. Hmm. The problem was all the other cups were in the dishwasher and were still on the clean cycle besides the fact that I was very resistant to dirtying another cup with all the other dishes now clean. I can't run a load of just sippy cups. "Lincoln what did you do with your bottle?!" He didn't seem to remember. He never does (he did help look though). We looked and looked with no luck. Finally I broke down and opened the dishwasher to get another one out. As steamy water rushed up to my face I looked down and there was his bottle face down, clean on the outside, not so much on the inside since the top was still tightly screwed on. I guess I should be proud of him for loading his dishes in the dishwasher instead of being frustrated. In all fairness to him, he was trying to help before I banished him to his crib so I could finish loading without his help. I try to get his help with the unloading so he doesn't have to put his fingers in ketchup or other greasy messes. His other sippy cups (hard snap on lid that we use for water) were also not to be found while loading the dishwasher earlier. Later I found 1 in the hall closet in a box, 1 in the car on the floor behind the seat, and I don't know where Chris found the last one. Lincoln hides them and then if he gets to them first he immediately drinks from them which creeps me out because I have no idea how long they've been there and what can happen to the water/backwash in them in that amount of time. It is amazing how many things I do find when Lincoln plays his hiding game. Last week I found my cell phone behind the DVR in the TV cabinet. At least it was still on so I could call it using Chris's phone. I've found his bottles crammed into all kinds of nooks and crannies. The good news is that I am improving my detective skills through all of these challenges. I subconsciously pay attention to Lincoln's bottle, Chris's keys, ring, wallet, and cell phone making a mental note so I can later recall where I saw them when the need arises. It has paid off numerous times. Now for a piece of bad news, after the blessing we left Lincoln's sippy cup under our bench at church. It isn't our ward building and we're trying to cut down on our driving so I don't know if we'll be able to recover it. I'll have to keep an extra good watch on the three we have left.

Sydney's Blessing

Just posted some pictures of Sydney Crook's blessing from a few weeks ago:

Some Random Clips and Pics

There wasn't much in terms of photos or video in July because our camera broke, but here are some from this month we've taken with our new camera.  First, a video of various short clips:

Then some pictures, including this one:

We have a house and we're painting!

Well, we started work on the new house yesterday and it was an adventure! We were a little short on babysitters so we decided we would bring Lincoln with us and one of us would try to keep him busy while the other worked. It worked ok for a bit, but as soon as he realized he was being kept from all the fun he put up a nice fight to be included. We let him paint a little, but that became less than helpful when he started to eat the paint and coat himself in it as well. Aaaaaaghhhh! It was stressful! We finally got most of two walls done (the parts I had been able to tape) and decided to head home. It was a long day. Here are the fruits of our labors (by the way, the paint hadn't dried yet so it looks kind of funny):

Welcome to the world, Sydney

My sister, Summer, just had a baby last night. Everything went very well, and now they have a beautiful little girl named Sydney. She weighed a tiny 6 lbs, 3 oz, 7 lbs, 3 oz, and has a head full of bright red hair. Lincoln is practicing being gentle, but he gets a bit too excited sometimes. I have also set up a website for them, at http://www.crookhome.com, where they will hopefully put up lots of news and pictures. Here she is now...

I'm so glad

We've been recording some fun music videos for Lincoln from Jack's Big Music Show on Noggin, a great kids channel. Here's our favorite.

Lincoln's First Fight

It's been a week since it happened, but I figured we should document it for posterity.  Lincoln got in his first fight.  I'll let the picture say it all...

As you can see, he didn't come out unscathed, but you should see the other guy.  Okay, the other guy was actually a coffee table.  Lincoln went to steady himself on a DVD case that was lying halfway off of the table, and it obviously didn't support him, so he banged his eye pretty hard.  The above shot isn't more than a minute or two after it happened; it really puffed up quickly.  We called our doctor just to make sure, and she said as long as his pupils were the same size, and he wasn't acting abnormally tired or weird, he should be okay.  And he was okay, but it got much uglier...

...and he's out for the count.

4 in the morning

I know this site is for family matters, but I saw this and just had to share:

Man I wish I could flow like that. (And no, I didn't write this post at 4 a.m.)
