On Monday we finally got around to choosing a hospital for the birth of our baby. My doctor's office was wanting to know where to send my prenatal information so it was about time to take it seriously. I don't know why it has been so difficult to tour the hospitals around here. We tried to schedule a tour at the hospital down the street from our house, but the phone number we were given didn't really have anyone answering the phone. After several tries a lady finally answered, but she gave me a different number to call and I could never get anyone to answer that phone either. Before Monday we were still planning on choosing that hospital because it is so close and convenient, but we decided to check out a hospital in Orem before making a decision. Orem Community Hospital was recommended to me by almost everyone I know so I'm glad I finally went throught the trouble of going there to see it. We had some trouble finding out how to go on a tour, but it worked out. It's a very nice and small hospital, but the rooms are very big and have plenty of room for visitors. They're even going to have new rooms built by the time we go. The construction is almost finished and it looks great. All of the nurses we met were very nice. One nice plus that Provo doesn't have is that I wouldn't have to be shifted all over the hospital during my stay, but could stay in the same room. I felt very comfortable with the way everything was set up there. One of my concerns was being able to find the hospital easily and we were surprised that this hospital was a lot easier to find than we thought it would be. We shouldn't have any trouble making it back there again. From what I've heard about the duration of labor I think those extra 5 minutes it will take to get there won't be a huge issue. After leaving the hospital, we talked about how real this suddenly feels. It still doesn't always hit me that we're going to go to the hospital and have a baby one of these days, but I guess it's really going to happen.

Tour
Hey Naomi!
Fancy finding your blog...I have been trying to schedule a tour of the Orem Community hospital for a while. There was a number posted in my doctor's office, but I've called it to no avail. How did you eventually set one up?
I'm due on the 22nd of July--so it would be nice to see the place before having the baby.
Thanks so much!

Hi Nancy!
I'm glad you find our blog! Congratulations on your upcoming baby!
If I remember correctly we didn't make an appointment. When we got a hold of someone in the hospital they were fine with us just showing up. Everyone was very nice and excited to show us around and tell us about the new remodeling they were going through. I didn't end up being in one of the newer rooms, but my room was very big and I enjoyed the hospital so much I didn't want to leave when my time was up. Once we saw the hospital we knew it felt like a good place for us to go. It was a lot smaller and more personal than Utah Valley (we never did get to tour there, but I had visited a couple of friends there).
Good luck!
Naomi
Thanks for the info!
