I took Lincoln for a walk the other day. I had to carry him because he was still pretty upset with me for taking so long to put my shoes on when he was ready to go out already. I carried him to the mailboxes on the other side of our apartment complex (quite a long time to be carrying 28 lbs.) then I put him down so he could walk on the way back since I wasn't in a big hurry to get home. Our walks lately consist of him sitting down and eating rocks. There are too many dogs around these apartments for me to trust the dirt on those rocks so I pick him up and carry him a while. This particular day he was more interested in walking off the sidewalk and into the street to see the cars up close. He is very stubborn. So I carried him some more and walked up the trail through the complex. Eventually we came to a covered area next to the pool where there were some boys playing on skateboards and hanging out as 8-12 year old boys will do. Lincoln immediately wanted to be put down so he could watch the boys. He sat on some steps near them and watched them in awe for it must have been about 10-15 minutes. At that point he saw that one of the boys had a soccer ball so Lincoln decided it was time for him to join the crowd and he climbed up the steps and made his way to the ball. The boys were really nice to him and let him play around them for the next hour or so. He loved it! At one point he tried to go into an apartment where some boys were watching an older kid play video games, but me being such a mean mommy I had to drag him out. It amazes me that he is only one year old and he already wants to be one of the boys and just hang out without his mom around. He cracks me up. Yesterday I saw a skateboard at a garage sale and I was very tempted to buy it for him so he could really be one of the boys next time. I really should work harder to convince him he's still a baby.
