The Interpreter

4.7/10

Close, but no. This film had one major flaw: it tried to be too many different movies all at once, and it didn't do well at any of them. It would try to be a cool action thinker thriller, but wouldn't pull it off. So it switched to a political statement, but it wasn't so good at that either. No problem, lets just change the style again, this time to a tear-jerker tradegy drama. Sorry, none of it works. Give up. Maybe the genre jumping was to keep the audience on their toes, but I simply found it boring.

If you've got an extra buck, and are sick of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, the movie is a nice adult story that makes some good points and has some decent acting. And, if you're one of the 3 people living that likes Sean Penn, you might actually enjoy it. But there are a lot of movies that do the same thing, so much better. If you want to see a strong political movie, go see Hotel Rwanda. If you want a good character drama, go see Cinderella Man.
